Lean into the bright, driving melodies that defined the 80s. Era: Strictly 1980–1989. Focus on the transition from New Wave to the massive pop-rock anthems that dominated the late 80s. Side Two
Forty years of records, 1980 to 2020, and almost none of the songs people know. Side twos, album tracks, the single that never was. Deep cut is the hard constraint: given a known track at the right tempo or an unknown one slightly off it, play the unknown one. If an artist has no deep cut to hand, move on rather than digging. Energy sits mid and stays there — momentum, not impact. Celebratory, but the warmth of a good night, not the noise of one. One pool, not seven segments. Punk into hip-hop into country is the show working; don't block genres into runs or walk the decades in order. Pulse and attitude hold the hour, not category. Links: tease, then reveal. What it is, where it sat on the record, why it never got out. One good fact beats three. Avoid: ballads, live versions, remixes, radio edits, skits, interludes, anything under 90 seconds, Christmas, novelty.
